VILLA BUCHER

Immersed in the green of the Umbrian hills, situated in the area of the middle valley of
the Tevere, Villa Bucher estate is located with panoramic view over the heart of Italy.

Extended over 65 hectares, 6.5 of which designed to grapes production, for its position
it benefits of a microclimate favourable to vine. The well-balanced harmony of climatic factors such as sun, light, air, ventilation and rainfall produces fruits capable of
generating high quality wines, true interpreters of the peculiarities of the territory.

The various types of produced grapes are all hand-picked and vinified separately, in
order to derive from each the best quality result. The resulting wines are endowed with strong personality, great structure and are gifted with longevity; for this reason, the red wines in particular, are well-suited for long aging.

“My father bought the property in San Venanzo 30 years ago with the vision of producing his own Italian wine. Love and dedication have brought the wines to a high standard that you can taste from start to finish. He has been running the winery for 3 decades now and has fallen in love with the Italian flair. Last year, the winery given to me to continue the family tradition, modernising everything and bringing it up to the latest state of the art. In 2022 we created a new red wine Rosso Vulcano and rosé wine Rosado always to be up to the latest trend. The love of wine continues and accompanies us on our path.”

- Oliver Bucher -

It has always been my dream to share my passion for wine and to pass on this tradition to my son.

Terra del Volcano

AUTHENTIC FLAVOR
THROUGH VOLCAN SOIL

The wine region around Villa Bucher has proven volcanic soil for a unique character in the wines. Volcanic soil is considered among some of the best for growing winegrapes. In general, volcanic soils encourage the development of desirable flavor and texture compounds in winegrapes; such soils are porous and provide good drainage, which causes grapevines to grow deep to seek nutrients.

Soil absolutely affects a wine’s flavor, but it’s usually thought to do so indirectly. The way a soil retains water, reflects or absorbs sunlight affects how vines develop and, therefore, the resulting wine’s flavor.

Besides the common attributes they share of bright acidity, saline character and lifted flavour profile, the wines from these unique soils are made from indigenous varieties and show exceptionally pure varietal definition.

From a sensory and organoleptic point of view the so-called mineral hints (together with some stony and sulphurous notes) are becoming ever more associated as an identifying characteristic for volcanic wines.

Volcanic wines have a deep and ripe minerality, and they can age for a very long time. The aroma, structure and acidity content of the grapes is perfect. Also the ratio of tartaric, malic and citric acid content is really stable every year.

Regione Umbria

ARTESANAL

The region of Umbria lies in the heart of Italy with its capital Perugia. In terms of landscape, soil and climate, the area to the east can be compared to Tuscany. Viticulture has existed here for hundreds of years. Our workers are Italian residents who specialise in picking grapes. They know their craft and preserve the italian wine tradition.

Vinificare

winemaking4.jpg

At the beginning of autumn, our Italian helpers are called in to start the grape harvest. This process takes about 14 days and is done by hand to ensure the maximum quality. Hand-picking allows the grape berries to be selected directly in the vineyard. Not all grapes are ripe at the same time so they have to be harvested at the optimal time. Red and white grapes are carefully collected in different boxes.

All premium quality grapes are taken to our own press.
There they are once again sorted out by hand so that only the best grapes go into the press. Most white wine grapes go directly into a pneumatic wine press which gently squeezes the grapes to separate the juice from the skins. The red wine must and the skins stay together to enable the extraction of color and tannins. After a while they’re also separated.

The must is now transferred to our wooden and stainless steel fermentation vessels. During this fermentation, which often takes between one and two weeks, the yeast converts most of the sugars in the grape juice into ethanol (alcohol),carbon dioxid and aromas.

Italian+Wine+in+Bottle

Our cork is a natural product obtained from the bark of cork oaks from Portugal. The trees are peeled every 9 years and processed with great care. Special machines are used to fill the wine bottles produced in Italy and store them in the wine cellar.

OUR WINES

Our Oenologist

Maurilio Chioccia is one of the most famous winemakers in Italy and the luminary of our region on the matter of wine. He has been working for years at the Villa Bucher winery and is responsible for the present taste and intensity of the wines. „The uniqueness of volcanic soils is crucial in characterizing our wines. The presence of volcanic formations in San Venanzo, along with active volcanic vents, contributes to the distinctiveness of our vineyards. These volcanic soils impart a noticeable and persistent acidity to our white and red wines, enhancing their longevity and ability to age gracefully. On the palate, the wines stand out with the distinct flavours imparted by these volcanic soils.”
